Moms with a Power Source
““And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”” Luke 24:49 NLT
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about Me everywhere...” Acts 1:8 NLT
Yesterday was Pentecost Sunday. Maybe they talked about it in your church. Jesus died for our sins AND for the Holy Spirit to come to ALL who believe.
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.” John 14:16-17 NLT
He lives with us and is now in us; we are filled with the Holy Spirit. Being a mom can be super hard sometimes. When I’m feeling anxious or struggling with depression, I have lost connection with my Power Source. When I start doing things in my own strength, it doesn’t take long for my emotions to override my spirit. We say in our house, “you have big feelings right now. Let’s take a break.” When I’m walking in self-effort big feelings start to show up in anxiety, depression, fear, anger, isolation, or sadness. Listen, please validate your emotions and those of others.
They are very real, but they aren’t stronger than our Jesus. The big feelings cause real physical signs; fight, flight, or freeze. It helps me know that and identify those and quickly grab back ahold of my Power Source. Then I take a few deep breaths, go for a walk, or take a shower (this is our 13-year-old daughter’s de-escalation tool), all while praying and worshipping. We are triune beings; body, soul, and spirit.
****Momming is the best job ever and the hardest job ever. YOU CAN DO IT! As Christian moms, we don’t have to mother on our own. We have the Holy Spirit. We have the presence of God. We have Jesus. Now that’s some power!
